Life Noted Month Review October 2018 Theme: Evaluating Priorities

Post Comment

Welcome to the third post in our series designed to help you do your Month Reviews in your Life Noted planner!

The Life Noted planner (in academic year or January-December formats) is designed to help you set, track, and evaluate your goals all year and incorporate your goal tasks into your everyday life. There are pages to help you do annual and monthly reviews and goal setting.

Every month when it’s time to do your Month Review in your Life Noted planner, I’ll have a new post to give you ideas on how to do the review.

Each month will have a new theme. You can pick the theme you like best and do that every month, or you can do the new theme each month, or pick and choose the elements you like from each month’s theme to do your monthly review. Remember, this is all about you! Do what you find most useful.

In August I showed you how to do a very basic month review, and for September’s review we focused on Learning Experiences.

This month our focus will be on evaluating your priorities.

Look back through your planner to see what you spent the most time on in the past month. These were your priorities. No matter how much we say something is a priority, if we don’t spend time on it, it’s not.

Ask yourself the following questions:

What 5 things, topics, and/ or people did you spend the most time on this month?

What does this indicate your priorities were this month?

Were these what you intended your priorities to be? Why or why not?

What do you want your priorities to be next month?

How can you spend time on your priorities? How can you work your priority tasks into your schedule?

Now that you have evaluated your month and decided what your Priorities will be for next month, write your Goals at the top of the Forecast page for next month. Next, break your Goals down into the Action steps you will complete each week in the upcoming month.

Heads up: November’s Month Review Theme will be Data. So start now, if you don’t already, by keeping notes on the data associated with your goals. For example, write down your daily miles and/ or minutes run/walked/cycled; your daily word count for your thesis or NaNoWriMo; keep track of your grades on all your exams and assignments this month; etc. Make your goals measurable, and keep track of the measurements so you can see your progress. Get ready to crunch all that data Friday November 23rd to see how you’re doing on your progress toward your goals!

The Life Noted month review posts are on the Friday of the last week of that month in your Life Noted planner, right before the monthly review pages. These are not always the last Friday of each month; they are on the Friday of the week before the start of the new month. Follow along in your Life Noted planner and you’ll find that these posts come up just when you need them! They go up on a Friday so you have all weekend to do your month review.
