On the first Wednesday of each month we have a post with the month’s theme. The month theme is something to think about, journal about, include in your daily intentions, and/or be mindful of all month.
The days are getting shorter and colder weather is on the way. As I wrote in Monday’s post, now is the time to plan strategies to create healthy habits to keep up your productivity and morale in the upcoming weeks.
Part of this strategy is self-care. Taking good care of yourself in the winter months is especially important to reduce stress during busy times and keep up your health during the cold and flu season. Take care of yourself, so you can take care of everything else!
Write reminders in your planner or journal to take care of your physical and emotional health. Here are some ideas:
- Meditate every day, in whatever way works for you such as actual meditation practices, prayer, sitting in nature, or just clearing your mind.
- Get physical exercise. Go to the gym or indoor pool, run or bike if the weather is good enough, go for a hike or walk. If the weather is really horrible, do a DVD or some weights at home. It doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated, just keep moving.
- Meet up with friends, keep up on socialization and communication. Have coffee with a friend and chat. You’ll feel better!
- Get plenty of sleep. Limit caffeine and alcohol, and stop looking at screens at least an hour before bedtime (and have a regular bedtime) to promote healthy sleep patterns.
Make a list of things to refresh and renew yourself over the coming weeks. Some can be no or low-cost (like taking a hot bath), some can be some cost (like going out to a movie with a friend or getting a massage), some can be higher cost (like a weekend away). Refer to this list when you need a pick-me-up.
When you’re super busy, it’s especially important to take care of yourself. Keep your body and mind running at top efficiency so you can crank through your tasks and schedule with maximum productivity!
